The neighbourhood of Ozone Park is in the South-West of Queens and borders the borough of Brooklyn. It is this location, together with the opening of the Fulton Street rail line, which enabled many Italian Americans to move here from East Brooklyn in the early 1900s. In fact many current Italian American residents are originally from the neighbouring borough.
The neighbourhood is now made up of many smaller neighbourhoods, each with a unique character and atmosphere, and it is also known for its Aqueduct Racetrack. Pope John Paul II came here from Rome in 1995 to celebrate mass at the Aqueduct for 75,000 people.
